The great thing about using a medicine ball with your ab workouts is that it will help you develop your sense of balance further than it would if you just did regular ab workouts. So here are a few workouts you can try to accomplish this.

Start out by using the ball while doing crunches. Hold the ball on your chest and perform your crunches. You will feel the added challenge if you hold the ball to your chest and keep your elbows bent and touching your sides. You can tweak this workout further by twisting your body to alternate sides while you crunch. You will feel the tension in your lower abs. Just remember to breathe out while crunching up and breathe in while going back down

Lie on your back on the floor and pass the ball back and forth from your hands to between your feet. Go for the whole range of motion for both your hands and your feet by making sure they touch the floor at the end of every rep.

Lie on your back on the floor and bring your legs up so that they’re pointing upwards and your hips are bent at 90 degrees from the floor. Hold the medicine ball in your hands in front of you. Slowly raise your head and shoulders and push the ball upwards. Hold for a few seconds and lower your head and shoulders. Remember to inhale while going down and exhale while going up. This exercise targets your upper ab muscles.

You can also try using the ball while performing plank holds. Do a regular plank hold exercise but hold the ball with your hands instead of placing them on the floor. Make sure that your hands are on the ball and not touching the floor. For an added challenge you can slowly roll the ball back and forth so that your ab muscles are flexed during each movement. You can also try alternatively shifting each foot back and forth while holding the ball still in your hands. You can also use the ball to rest on while doing sideways plank holds.
